+on Rhombus

Walking to work this morning, I realised that I actually really really like the Bass Player album, it wasn’t the hits “Clav Dub” or “Onward”, but the finer tracks “Homeless” and “Tour Of Outer Space”. Ive mentioned before Wellington has some great musical talent, Ive even mentioned this band has some great vocal telent, but these particular songs really show it off, I like how homeless has a simple beat that builds up, with more simplistic/ funky / jazz like layers, even the vocals are cut in and used – sometimes.

Since their inception back in 2001, Rhombus have already firmly established themselves as a leading contender in both the local and international music scene. Sales of their first album release ‘Bass Player’ and subsequent remix album ‘Bass Player Special Edition’ well exceeded initial projected forecasts, further promoted by the group’s first visual offering, the 2003 b-net award winning video ‘Clav Dub’ directed by Chris Graham. The defining sound and vision of Rhombus has been acknowledged by media and industry peers alike through various national music awards including ‘Most promising New Act’ in 2002, ‘Best Electronic Album’ and ‘Best Album’ in 2003 at the Bnet Music Awards and ‘Best Runner Up’ video at the 2004 Kodak Music Clip Awards for ‘Tour Of Outer Space’, directed by Wade Shotter.

Internationally, Rhombus have established a following in Japan, Australia, The United Kingdom, America, Canada, Scandinavia, Germany, Holland and other EN countries thanks to the wonders of online music stores offering their sound to the world.

I’ll be the first to tell you I didn’t like this album upon release, then again when it was released, I didn’t listen to multiple genres of music, I didn’t really start exploring the local scene (and further then the bleeders etc) until I moved in with Benny and Sleaze
