Steve, or Skidmark Steve (Scuba Steve, Sober Steve, and occasionally Steve the wanker) Is someone I mention a fair amount but don't really go into detail about, so ill give you a very brief interpretation on my flatmate (this leads onto a musical rant so dont get bored)
Steve met my older brother when Rawiri jumped up and said was looking for flatmates (that's how they done it in the olden days) during a computing class (so its fair to say Steve should have been a computer nerd)
He ended up moving in with Ra and several other dudes (all older then him, much the same as the situation I'm in now) where they drank, ate and made a mess in many decapitated flats together.
Eventually they split up all, Rawiri went for a nice Tidy life of solitude, Steve eventually ended out with me at the Massive.
I cant tell you much more about Steve, other then he is really good to his family and friends, loves to drink Jim Beam, wears a Manawatu rugby jersey, works at service foods and listens to Modest Mouse.
I don't know if they're his favourite band, but I can tell you that they're up there amongst among his favourite artists,
He asks me what I think of them alot, so I decided instead of ranting an raving to his face I'd get around to throwing a rant up, so here it is…
I FUDGIN HATE MODEST MOUSE!

Not really, I actually really enjoy alot of their music I personally think 'The Moon And Antarctica' is a work of art, with gorgeous lyrics, perfect back up instrumentals (for the rather deep lyrics/subject matter) such as the violin used in 'Lives, and a really quirky / origonal sounding band
I find it really unfortunate that in New Zealand the band broke out with 'Float on' which I think doesn't represent there unique sound as well as any of the work on this older album.
The Moon and Antarctica really proves a band can move from a smaller label to the likes of Epic, Sony BMG etc and retain their feel, Isaac Brock's voice has a range which you will find otherwise fitting in snugly with the almost folky instrumentals one minutes then screaming like a banshee over everything the next (and when I say screaming, I don't mean like death metal screaming, or angry screaming) he holds his voice so very very well.
As I was saying, I dont know if theyre Steves favourite bands, I wouldnt rate the band in my top 10, this album however would be right up there in my favourite 'alternative' rock stack (which I tow around with a truck) its simpaly gorgeous to listen too.
Check out '3rd Planet, Gravity Rides Everything', and 'Lives' (but seriously pick up the album, and listen to it from start to finish a few times)
Also Steve if you read this, I've figured out who they remind me of. – 'old' Pluto
I brought their older album yesterday, on Robs recomendation. I still need to have a good listen to it but to tell the truth I thought they were an emo band and thats kind of what I was hoping for lol
