So, Steve, Riki and I set out for Napier / Hastings, this was going to be the first leg of our journey to Auckland for the KoRn concert at the supertop, I had good memories of the route between Palmerston North and Napier from an earlier Road Trip with some college mates, however this time the weather was somewhat lackluster, mike dee wasnt drinking a bottle of vodka in the back seat, and Rob Janes wasnt pissing out the window of a moving car.
On the upside we had some awesome music, were in high spirits, and on our way to see a band all three of us have enjoyed probibly since primary or intermediate schools, nothing was going to go wrong.
-We got to Hastings eventually, and hit Burger King for dinner, and decided where we would stay, noone had any kind of solid idea, (we thought of calling up Ra and getting silverpriests number, and also thought of going to DJ Toms place) we ended up deciding we where going to Drive through to Taupo and decide what to do from there, we really had no idea what we where getting into.
-I say this because some time while I was dozing off in the hill land between Napier and Taupo, it rained heavily, heavily enough to cause rock slides, I first woke up when the car was being waved across the road by a policeman/AA dude, making sure people didnt drive into a rock the size of your average bedside dresser, I didnt think much of it, or the branches etc that litterd the road, until I woke up, weightless, with the windscreen and rear window coverd in grit, a slide had occured infront of the car and Steve didnt react in time to dodge it, we were airborne, after the 'thump' and skidding / locking up of wheels, everyone in the car was very alert, Steve was pale, he obveously had quite a scare… anyways, we spent a good ten minutes on the side of the road with the hazards on warning traffic of the new slide, and then where on our way to Taupo the check the damage.
-After a slow trip (steve was really (and rarely) very cautous now) and another posative the front of his car wasnt mangled after hitting the grit slide, when we arrived it became apparent that nothing was wrong the the cars structure, although between 100km/h and 110km/h the sterring wheel would now shake annoyingly. We also had to decide what to do from Taupo, head home? find somewhere to sleep, or (as we chose) get to Auckland, the last leg North was fairly tame, after all the excitement between Napier and Hastings, it was fairly much fog from Rotorua through to the bombay hills, Hamilton flew by asthough it didnt exsist, we took a few wrong turn offs in Auckland and ended up driving over the harbour bridge 3 times, then relised when we pulled up outside my uncle/aunty's it was 3 in the morning, we slept in the car at the end of there street.
damn, I am so glad you’re okay after the rock/mud slide… 0.0 scared the fuck out of me when I read that. *hugs*
Sounds like you had fun though my dear
