Cats

Im considering buying a kitten, Ive never owned a real pet before, I mean, weve had family cats, and dogs since as long as I remember, but ive personally never owned anything larger then a goldfish… and even then my aunty Loreen rescued (stole) them.

Now you are probibly wondering whats brough all of this on? and thats a fair thing to wonder, im a student, and cannot really afford to support a cat, on top of that im more of a dog person anyways (though I like both) and well, to be honest, it was this  auction on trademe, which lead to this blog the author/ current owner of the kittens is quite brilliant, updating some awesome blogness (ill post one below)

Over the weekend the kitten platoon has gone bonkers… fighting, running away from home [well to the hall and meowing cos they is lost], violence escalates very easily now, mass riots breaking out both in and out of the pad, ambush is commonplace and no foot is safe. Following me everwhere…. looking only at feet… and they have two speeds, stop and all-terrain Mach 1. Stop is used for sleeping and other stuff. All terrain Mach 1, is used for everything else. Couches are mere puntuation on the kitten-terrain of life, feet and brothers and sisters are the enemy, and are to be sacked, attacked, and whacked as often as possible. Mum is a 24 hr milk bar, 8 handy despensers, mobile, warm.

Thump is the leader, the pioneer, the crash test dummy, everyone else learns from his mistakes. Or not as the case may be. I discovered a mantra scratched on the inside wall of the kitten pad, looks like it was scratched with kitten claws and it reads "Who dares wins, the brave, the fluffy." Wierd eh.

 

I think Thump could survive in Wellington, its an exciting place where he could have all kinds of adventures…

So yeah cats = awesome, oh did I mention Amy has a cat? called evil, Ill get some photos once he lets me, hes only starting to trust the guys in the flat, im sure he will never trust steve, just like the rest of us, haha.
You can never be sure weither he wants to be your friend, or eat you…

Connan And The Mockasins

Are the best band youve never heard of. The first time I ever heard of them Raymond was telling me the line up opening for the datsuns in Tauranga, 'some goth band, oh and these guys the mock asains' Raymond being of Asain decent (but about as kiwi as you come) didnt know what to think.

We then enterd, and proceeded to be blown away by Hendrix style riffs, poppy screaming… A huge classical double bass…

 

It was the best gig of my life, small sweaty room… booze… crazy guitarist playing with his mouth.. behind his back, Ray and Jay going missing in the lake of moshers  … best gig, and this is coming from a guy who moshed at the Foo Fighters not so long ago.

 

Anyways im mentioning all of this because the band now has a  website up, where you can sample some of there music, and see some vids of connan in action.

MSN Beta 8.0 deuce

upon playing around with msn live messenger beta some more theres a few more cool things you can do…

• Sharing folders – a folder between two users, you drop multiple items in there and theyre receivable on the other end = no more manualy going through your files and posting each one up in convosation.

• Offline Message's – simple, you send a message to someone who appears offline (like you do with someone who is online) when they decide to log inthe message pops up, great if you need to tell someone important your going out for such and such reason, or maybee theyre avoiding you and….

I logged into deviantart two days back and got this message

Now anyone who uses Firefox's superior plug in's and DeviantArt will auytomatically notice the DeviantArt Skins icon at the bottom of my browser, let me assure you, no skins are on, right now DeviantArt has a "We could desperat" Thankyou we found a network administrator" advert (so much for the 'no ads if your subscribed) which will cover important links if your using skins (which have smaller head banners 80% of the time), So im not using skins.

Could it be that dA is finally looking at a change of colour?

So ellin has made is comeback by releasing wash v1 (draft) you cant thank matt for bringing us the gekkocubed and nzgamer websites, not being a prick and lately it would seem entertaining the people of Auckland city with his bad arse dance moves.

Dream Theater

Today has been full of firsts for me, Its the first time I woke up an enjoyed being a vegetarian, (a little experiment I’ve been doing) infact I’ve even considered taking it up for longer, its the first time I can consider Wellington to be cold, infact I’m chilled to the bones, And its the first time Ive sat down and given a Dream Theater album a chance, well infact two Dream Theater albums, for those of you who do not know, Dream Theater are a progressive Metal band, who have been around for 20 odd years, At first I though the songs sounded a bit emo, and then the riffs, and drums kicked in, 80’s kind of stuff, its brilliant, check out these songs, ‘Fatal Tragedy, In The Name Of God, and Learning to Live’ they’re awesome.

Also I mentioned my lack of meat, I’m now one week into this ‘deal’ of sorts, and for the first time today I quite enjoyed my meals, I also enjoy mushrooms now! something i never used to do, provided they’re pan fried in butter, anyways just thought id note down that things arnt looking so bleak now, and if you beat against me lasting the month you might want to get your money back

MSN Beta 8.0

So Mike Dee ‘hooked a brudda up’ with the new beta of MSN ‘Live’ Messenger

Here you can see beta8.0’s GUI, and its incredibly tidy, Tabs can be hidden under options ‘hide tabs’ which is useful if you just want to use live messenger as a I.M, the pop up notifications fit in with your OS theme better (in my case milk2.0)

The future of IM’s looks as mixed as ever, gTALK
offers a stable Messenger with no frills, while MSN
comes with all the options and problems of its
predecessors.

It comes bundled with a virus scan, Which is handy for now, but will no doubt just mean more updates (more constant)

At the end of the day MSN 8 seems to be more of the same, which is good, at this point we really dont need any more out of a IM, if you dont mind a bloated Instant Messenger, look into msn’s corner, I suggest you go for Google Talk however, its smaller, it does its job well, and its not microsoft.

Flickr

I finally made another jump, one i vowed Id never do, I joined Flickr which is run by that pissant company yahoo… however I was surprised at the qaulity of the site, speedy, free uploads (and you can upload multiple images, with multiple tags at one… kinda like tagging music with iTunes) how cool is that?

Anyways photos etc around here are going to change in size slowly as I phase out useing imageshack.us and switch to something more stable… Dont get me wrong, imageshack.us rules, and serves its purpose great, for instance if you make a funny ‘ I pwnt j00′ image for a forum or something, throw it on imageshack, however, if you have a photo of a family member you want to throw on your blog, do it in Flickr.

Getting a Flickr account more or less defys my use of a stock account on DeviantART, so my stock images at halcyontom.deviantart.com are slowly going to go missing, however I may start using that username as my primary art account once my sub at propagandhi.deviantart.com runs out.

In short Flickr = Good.

The next half of this rant is going to be mixed up between my experiances yesterday, and music, Ill Begin with my experiances (whiles surfing blogmad) yesterday.

1) Whiney Australians and there cat 5 hurricane, hitting the countrys coast like ‘an atomic bomb’ I laughed my arse off, not because Australians where in trouble, we truley love our racialy enept naughbors accross the tasman, and never have feuds with them *cough cough* no nothing like that, My flatmates mother was in Australia’s northan regions when the cyclone hit, we got a phone call afterwards ‘yup the cyclone just passed over, the same as mild wellington winds’ you want windy Australia? Fly into the Airport here when its blowing an Antarctic southerly.

2) Bitching and moaning about this kiddy fiddler, the entire time I was reading the blog Im thinking to myself, damn I wish I was that kid, Ive got enough trouble pulling a tart like that as an adult. Any dude out there will remember what its like being a 14 year old student… theyre called fantasys and dreams…

3) NZGamer.com has finally got my prize sorted out, Viewtiful Joes newest installment, I cant wait to get it cranking… of course this will be after Morg has reveiwed it.

4) Aphex Twin, Richard D James is a freaken genuis, I dont care what you think you know, check out windowlicker, violen solo, come to daddy, techno tetris, powerpill pacman… its all just ambient greatness…

how cool is this

So I finally decided to support Google TALK, I figured I can spare 5meg in anycase, So I made the jump (keeping msn messenger at the same time – contacts)

Now the fact that im using googleTALK isnt what im vindicating here, I had some initial connection troubles, read through the FAQs, didnt find what I needed and wrote the google team instead, listinig my problem, the window message etc, just trying to be as helpful on my end as I could (having a brother who does this for a living teaches you to do so) and fairly much didnt expect anything back, I since fixed the problem myself and sat back, playing around with the programe learning its attributes when 15 minutes later I got this.

The team at google, actually Messaged me back, with the resolution to my problem (though as you can see by the image a lil late) that never happens! you have a problem with hotmail, and your screwed buddy.

Another cool thing is all your convosations are bunched in one window, and you toggle tags through them, this saves alot of space.

Me and Mike Dee spent alot of the morning playing with it on either end of the country, and I have to say everyone should downgrade from msn to gTALK, its smaller, cleaner and better, it coinsides with your gmail account… I just cant find any true problems (abate lack of video support) with it.

As for my vegeterianism, Today I tried a Vege Curry, beans instead of meat, cost $6:50, alot less carbs, very very tastey too! Might do one of those for dinner a week.

Im looking at doing a section on Vegeterian meals, what I think is yum, and what I think people should never think of putting near there mouths.
